Description
Gas reduction salad bowl
This large functional thrown gas reduction salad bowl is glazed in Shino and Chun glazes. High fired in gas reduction, this large bowl will grace any table. The beauty of a reduction firing is that it brings our the metallic elements in the clay and the glaze. Shino glaze originated in the 16th century as Japan’s first white glaze. It can vary from milky white to deep rich lustrous orange. It has a tendency to crawl away from itself, leading to fascinating textures. The Chun glaze is often opalescent which is caused by micro bubbles that refract light. Interestingly, Chun glaze is chemically very similar to the opal gemstone. The interior of this bowl has a soft blue hue with hints of pink. Width 25 cm x height 8cm.
This bowl is suitable to bake in – think moussaka, pasta bake, shepherd’s pie, apple crumble.
