Description
Gas reduction facetted bowl
This hand thrown bowl is facetted and carved and glazed in Shino and Chun glazes. High fired in gas reduction, this loving made bowl will grace any table. The beauty of a reduction firing is that it brings our the metallic elements in the clay and the glaze. Shino glaze originated in the 16th century as Japan’s first white glaze. It can vary from milky white to deep rich lustrous orange. It has a tendency to crawl away from itself, leading to fascinating textures. The Chun glaze is often opalescent which is caused by micro bubbles that refract light. Interestingly, Chun glaze is chemically very similar to the opal gemstone. The interior of this bowl is a soft opalescent blue. Width 11 cm x height 9cm.
