Pure porcelain

The clay used for these vessels is called Lumina from Keane. It has the ability to be translucent when built with thin walls and fired to 1300 degrees Celsius.  It is a lovely experience to hold these vessels and feel their delicate weight and see the shadow of your hands through the walls of the clay.

These pieces are hand thrown and decorated. They were inspired by a project I undertook at the Islamic Art Museum Malaysia in Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia. I studied art history at Charles Sturt Uni and travelled to Malaysia for a short artists in residence with my fellow students. My colleague and I were invited to return to KL to create a museum trail brochure.  The trail map had birds as the theme as they are a common icon in Islamic art.
