learning ceramics

There is a chill in the air here on Mt Tamborine signaling the approach of winter. So, out come the jumpers and socks but not much interferes with getting creative and we are getting ready for term 2 of classes at PJ Pottery. There is one space left in the 10 week intermediate class on Thursday nights for people with basic skills in hand building and throwing.

I am excited to announce my return to Gold Coast Potters offering a 5 week introductory course in hand building and throwing. Classes are on Wednesday mornings at Mudgeeraba.

art + music = adventure

The other exciting news is that Tamborine Mountain Arts Collective TMAC will be hosting an Artisan Alley at the Long Sunset Festival presented by QMF featuring Angus & Julia Stone. This “radiant new music event” is on 30 April at Elysian Fields, Canungra. PJ Pottery teapots will be included in the TMAC gallery space.

pottery rocks!

Happy New Year! I am pleased to say that in 2022 pottery continues to go strong. My classes are full and back for term 1 and my students are as keen as to learn more about this wonderful craft. I am receiving commissions regularly, these are always a welcome challenge and I feel privileged to be able to create handmade pieces to order.

I love teaching and sharing my skills and so I am doing some short instructional videos that I will post here and on my social media pages. As a bit of a teaser, this is one surface treatment process using resist tape on a ceramic bowl to create lines in a glaze. This piece is not fired yet so you’ll have to wait with me to see the results!

Goodbye 2021 + Hello 2022!

What an incredible year of ups and downs for us all. I feel incredibly lucky to have my own studio on Mt Tamborine, Queensland and have been able to teach, provide workshops and sell work throughout the year. I feel for my fellow artists doing it tough through COVID restrictions. Remember, every time you purchase handmade you are supporting the arts and WE THANK YOU!

It was a busy year for me creating loads of new teapots; experimenting with coloured porcelain clay for jewellery; organising two exhibitions for Ceramic Arts Qld and oh yeah…I got married to the love of my life! #happydance

As a way of bringing in the new year with style I will be offering a 2022 PJ Pottery Teapot Calendar Every month features an image of a unique handmade teapot that I have made this year with a few from the archive. The A4 calendar will cost $25 and includes postage within Australia.

If you would like to pre-order please email me at hello@pjpottery.com

Winter at the studio

We are all rugged up on Tamborine Mountain, wood smoke fills the evening air but it’s been snug and cosy at the PJ Pottery Studio and my wonderful enthusiastic students have just finished term 2 classes. I am so proud of their progress and some magic pots have been created over the last 10 weeks. Check out these amazing works including some marvellous monsters from a children’s pottery workshop I conducted in April with Scenic Rim Regional Council

Don’t forget my WINTER SALE of handmade jewellery ends last day of June – HAPPY SHOPPING!

handmade jewellery: shop update

handmade porcelain jewellery

handmade jewellery

Back in the warmth of January 2022 I ran a ceramic jewellery workshop and revelled in watching my students get excited about their creations. So now we are in May and I have at last finished and photographed my own handmade porcelain earrings and handmade glass bead necklaces.

Some of these have been embellished with small porcelain trinkets making them pop. And to celebrate, all of these new pieces are on sale until the end of June. I hope you find one or two you like here.

You can find a selection of PJ Pottery handmade jewellery at French Garden and Butler and Grace on Tamborine Mountain
